The timeline is where you do a lot of the creative work in creating sequences, applying special effects, modifying soundtracks, and assembling videos.
- Time moves from left to right on the timeline. You’ll see this frame in the Program Monitor wherever the blue playhead is.
- You can place clips on separate video and audio tracks. Video tracks play as stacks, so when you play a sequence in the Program Monitor, clips from upper video tracks appear before clips from lower video tracks. Audio tracks play together, so you can put multiple audio clips on different tracks to create a soundtrack mix.
- You can enable or disable individual tracks if you want to work on specific parts of the sequence.
- Choices matter in timelines. So if it doesn’t work as expected, double check that you’ve selected the correct clip.
- The Timeline panel and Program Monitor panel offer several tools, but you’ll typically use the Selection tool at the top of the Tools panel.
